How does a cracked account work?

Hi, I mean, how does it work? I just read something on the internet, that it is stolen from someone and that this person continues to renovate it and he/she doesn't know that that account is shared/cracked. Is that right? Is there someone who can explain me better that topic?

But can it works forever? Or usually they work for a limited time?
And why everyone says that is not recommended to change the password?

Cracked accounts are accounts that have been gotten into via cracking and/or bruteforcing to get the account password.
If you're smart, you can use the account without the owner knowing.
If you wanna try that, don't do things like change the email or password. Don't add/remove/edit anything they'd notice.
This also depends on the type of account it is. A video game account would be hard to access and use w/out them knowing.
Personally, I recommend just selling/trading those types of accounts.
