Is Edge browser safe to use?

I have been using google chrome for a long time for its speed & extension. But after upgrading to windows 10, I am quite impressed with the performance of Edge browser and it seems lighter on CPU usage & ram. But I am concerned about security intrigued by the bad reputation of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Would you please enlighten me on this? What's your take on the best browser right now?

its meant to be very secure and with Windows Updates, I would not be afraid to use it.
