Hello everyone. I hope this is in the right place. I've got some info, but I'm too new to this game to know if it's helpful, but I didn't want to waste it.
A large forum recently went offline for a few days. It had hack written all over it and I was aware there were plans to bring the site down in January.
When they came back online, they denied any hack had taken place, saying instead that the servers main hard drive had a critical failure and everything was gone. They had a recent backup of the database, and they're now using brand new OS that they aren't familiar with. If there was ever a time to try pen testing this place, now would be it. They're literally learning about how to get secure in real time.
They've always been tight when it came to security, but after problems with email configuration, things became lax. They banned too many people over in-house fighting (rather than breaking rules) so there are a lot of people out to get them. They'll be trying to make sure security is up to scratch, but they also don't like to appear weak, and have this cocksure attitude, so wouldn't dream of having more downtime. I doubt they've tested much at all, especially as they're live.
I see potential for getting juicy info on account of the site age (est. 2010-ish), and about 250k members.
I don't want to write the name of the place in case they found out through searching, (if you guys are deep web then it shouldn't matter) but you can see the forum name in the screenshots.
Maybe it's not your sort of thing, but I couldn't let it go without asking first.
Not sure if it's relevant but registration has been closed for months (the same time as the rumors about a hack being planned)
Thanks.
