looking back 10-15 yaers ago there wasnt as many encryption algorithms and not very commonly used and security and privacy was definitely not as important as many people were very new to the "interweb"
Yea there weren't that hard encryption but you should look at the accesability to the software that all pepole didn't have back then and now it's under you nose
